Former Irish League footballer William Murphy has thanked the public for their support after confirming his pet dog has been found dead.
Gizmo, a seven-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, was knocked down and killed on the Westlink.
The much-loved family pet had been missing from the Hogarth Street area of North Belfast since Thursday morning.
Murphy had taken to social media last week in an attempt to find Gizmo safe and well but he confirmed the sad news on Sunday night.
“Thank you to everyone who has helped look for Gizmo, he has been found knocked down and killed on the Westlink we appreciate all the support messages and everyone who has been out looking. Enjoy the rainbow bridge wee man,” Murphy tweeted.
Hundreds of messages of sympathy have been pouring in on social media.
One person tweeted: “I am so sorry to hear that. There are times that I like animals better than humans.
“That little dog brought you happiness and returned the love you had for him or her.”
