Christy Manzinga may have hit the ground running this season but he insists there is plenty more to come from the striker.
Manzinga was on target in Linfield’s emphatic 4-0 win over Borac Banja Luka in the Europa Conference League, adding to the goal he scored against Zalgiris Vilnius earlier this month in the Champions League.
The striker only netted three times the whole of last season, with his campaign interrupted by injury and suspension.
Manzinga prefers to “move on” from last season’s frustrations, and if this summer is anything to go by then the 26-year-old could prove a vital member of Linfield ‘s title-defending squad.
His goal against Borac Banja was testimony to the quality of the former Motherwell forward.
Manzinga latched onto Stevie Fallon’s long ball before cutting inside his defender and unleashing an unstoppable strike into the top corner of the net.
“Stevie Fallon delivered a good ball, and after that it is just instinct,” Manzinga told Linfield tv.
“When you are a striker you just need to do something quick in your head and I managed to do that.
“I feel much better than last year. I don’t want to really speak about last year, it is done now. But I feel much, much better, game after game.
“I am not at 100 per cent, but I am just pushing it up game by game.”
Manzinga believes the hard work put in during pre-season is starting to reap rewards.
And he says scoring goals and contributing to the team only serves as added motivation.

“You work hard every single session, and when you play and score goals then you start believing that the work is paying off,” he said.
“It is exciting and gives me motivation to do more.
“I just have to stay focused, but we have a big game next week and we want to get a result to make sure we progress.”
Another bonus for Manzinga is that his goal against Banja Luka means he is now moved into Linfield’s top 10 goalscorers in Europe.
He scored against Tre Fiori last year and has already added two more European goals this summer.
“It is nice to get into the top 10 Linfield European goalscorers. As a striker you have to reach some objectives each year,” he said.
“I just want to make my mark, so I am really happy.”
