League action in the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership is back tonight (Wednesday) with a full round of matches.
After last season’s shortened campaign due to Covid, the league sees a return to its full playing schedule with each of the sides in the top-flight clashing with each other four times.
Derry City Women v Cliftonville Ladies
Cliftonville are hot on the heels of leaders Glentoran and also have two matches in hand over the Glens.
A win could send them on their way to putting some real distance at the top of the table.
The Reds have won 15 times in as many games against Derry City.
John McGrady’s Reds have been impressive this season but they can’t take anything for granted after Derry City narrowly missed out on getting a point at Sion Swifts last time out.
Sion Swifts Ladies v Linfield Ladies
The Swifts picked up their first points of the season against Linfield earlier last month with a famous six goal win over the Blues.
It seemed to have been the catalyst for Ryan McConville’s side to start firing as they have looked hard to beat since.
Expect a high scoring dramatic game as 27 goals have flown in, in this encounter.
Sion sit fourth in the table.
Glentoran Women v Crusaders Strikers
Glentoran Women need a win here to ensure they stay within the top six but they are up against a Crusaders side who won’t be turned over so easily, winning six in seven matches.
The Glens have won both matches this season however not by a convincing margin with many not able to predict which way this one could go.
The Glens have edged out both games this season – Danielle Maxwell’s goal separated the sides in a 1-0 win at The Oval on the opening day of the season before Casey Howe’s last gasp strike won their tie at Seaview last month.
It doesn’t help the Strikers that the last time they won at the oval was in September 2019.
