Portadown have announced that teenagers Sam Glenfield and Reece Jordan have signed three-year professional deals at the club.

Glenfield made his senior league debut last season at the age of 15 years and 167 days in a 3-0 defeat league defeat to Coleraine.

The 16-year-old went on to make two more senior appearances and was named in the Northern Ireland Under-17 squad for a training camp in August.

Reece Jordan, also 16, made his senior debut against Dungannon Swifts in May this year as a late substitute for Sam Warde.

Jordan would go on to play the full 90 minutes in the final game of the Premiership campaign against Ballymena United.

Matthew Tipton told Portadown’s website: “Both Sam and Reece have been training with us consistently since about Christmas time last season and have shown great attitude and ability since then.

“Both made their debuts last season as u16 players and were sent away at the end of the season with the promise that they were very much in our plans for this coming season but they would need to push themselves to improve over the summer break.

“What was most pleasing with both of them is they followed our programming and came back to us in the top few on our testing.

“After that it was a case of seeing how well they started on the football front and both have exceeded our expectations so far. This is very much the start for both of these young players but one we all have high hopes.

Both players will be battling for a place in the squad for the opening Danske Bank Premiership game of the 2021/22 campaign on Friday, August 27 against Glenavon at Shamrock Park.
