It has been announced that Sir Mo Farah is returning to the Antrim Coast Half Marathon in 2021.

The four-time Olympic champion will be attending next month’s event but will not be competing.

Farah won last year’s Antrim Coast Half Marathon in a time of one hour 31 seconds.

He broke his foot in the build-up to the Olympic trials in Birmingham last month, but has confirmed he will travel to Northern Ireland to show his support for the race in Larne on Sunday, August 29.

“I’m delighted to be joining the Antrim Coast Half Marathon this year,” Farah said in a video.

“Unfortunately I won’t be running, but I’ll be getting involved. I enjoyed it last year. So much scenery, lovely people.

“It was amazing to be there and I was racing.

“But this year I’m going to be behind it and get involved with the kid’s race, so don’t miss out and I’ll see you there.”

This year’s Men’s race will be headlined by Ethiopia’s Jemal Yimer, World Athletics ranked No.2 for the last two years.

He will be joined by fellow countryman Tesfahun Akalnew and Kenya’s Daniel Mateiko and Shadrack Kimining. Victor Kiplangat from Uganda will join the line-up. They all have personal bests under 60 minutes.

Teams from England and Northern Ireland will be joined by Tokyo Olympians Marc Scott and Paul Pollock, along with British and Irish Internationals Scott Overall, Mick Cloishey, Hugh Armstrong, Gary O’Hanlon, and local favourite and multiple World Record holder Tommy Hughes.

Meanwhile, Ethiopian sensation Yalemzerf Yehualaw will be out to improve on her 64:40 minute personal best set in Istanbul earlier this year, and to chase down the women’s half-marathon world record of 64:02.

The UK and Ireland will be led by Ann-Marie McGlynn, alongside last year’s Antrim Coast Half Marathon fourth place finisher Becky Briggs, Eleanor Davis, and with teams from England and Northern Ireland.
